Hello everyone,

It was a great election cycle (with a couple of glaring exceptions, such as Prop 8 and the Leibham campaign). I would like to thank everyone that got involved in any way - Precinct Leaders, phone bankers, canvassers, club members, and everyone that helped spread the word and GOTV in our neighborhoods. We all did a ton of work this year to help turn San Diego county blue.

Now we want to keep our momentum for 2009 and 2010. The DMCV Democratic Club will not meet in November but in December we will have a holiday party. At that meeting there will also be some brief club business to prepare for the officer elections in January. After that, the Club will generally meet every other month in 2009.

It is down to the final days of this election. Thanks to you twenty-six(!) precinct leaders and GOTVers, 20% of all Carmel Valley Democrats have already voted (1430/7313). That is 46% of all Dem PAVs (1430/3116)! And that is only counting the people that have already been entered in the system - we get well over 2000 votes in the bag before Election Day even gets here. That is a HUGE advantage for both our national and local races, so keep up the good work.

However, according to the Registrar of Voters' recommendation, the time to mail in PAV ballots is past. People now have three choices - 1) vote at the Registrar of Voters (5201 Ruffin Road) between 8 AM and 5 PM EVERYDAY from now until Nov 4th, including this Saturday and Sunday, and Election Day; 2) Bring a PAV ballot to ANY polling station on Election Day; 2) Vote at your home polling station on Nov 4. As you talk to voters, remind them that their home polling station location will be on the back of their sample ballot. They can also find it using the San Diego County web site, by calling the County at 858-565-5800, or through the new Google map-the-vote tool. These web sites are also handy to help PAV ballot holders find a convienent drop-off location near work, the store or a school.

There are two ways to get out the vote between now and Monday. The first is to contact Democrats that have not yet voted. On Friday evening, after all of the PAVs from this week have been entered into the system, I can make you a new list of Democrats in your precinct(s). The more of these voters that you contact or homes that your doorhanger, the better our turnout will be on Election Day. In particular, it is important to contact people who vote only occasionally (1/4 and 2/4 voters on your list) and urge them to vote. If you would like this updated list, please let me know. The second immediate way to GOTV is to work with the Nick Leibham campaign. Nick has a highly organized GOTV effort running this weekend (Friday - Monday) from 9 AM to midnight. There are a ton of opportunities to phoneback or canvass, and the campaign is also doing visability events at 7:15 AM on Friday, Monday and Tuesday. On Election Day we will be totally coordinated with the Leibham campaign. We will check our precinct poll lists and call voters throughout the day, making sure every Democrat gets to the polls on Tuesday. Democratic turnout will decide the outcome of the congressional race in the 50th district. Our efforts can help send Nick to Washington DC and send Brian Bilbray back home to, well, the DC suburbs.

At the end of the weekend I will send out more details about our Election Day schedule and plans. Let me know if you need anything (doorhangers, Leibham yard signs, calling lists), and please let me know if any friends or family members would like to help out on Election Day. There are plenty of ways to participate in the election - not everyone has to knock or doors or call people.

Del Mar and Carmel Valley - Get Out the Vote

Hello Del Mar and Carmel Valley Democrats,

We are down to the final two weeks of this enormous election cycle. Thanks to everyone that is helping on the GoTeam, individual campaigns or any of the other local efforts. No matter what your focus so far, our goal now is to get out the vote since absentee ballots have been delivered. Calling these PAV Democrats and reminding them to vote (or finding out if they already did) will be hugely important in the next two weeks. Please let me know if you would like a calling list for your neighorhood (or for a differnt neighborhood in our area) and I will be happy to provide one.

At the bonus DMCV club meeting this Wednesday, Oct 22, we are going to talk about our GOTV plan for the last weekend (Nov 1-3) and for election day itself. This is for any club or GoTeam members that need campaign or walking materials, a walk list for your neighborhood or other info, or anyone with ideas for our group. This is also a great time to turn in canvassing walking lists to that HQ can enter that data. We will be meeting on the patio of Pat & Oscars at 7 pm (3881 Valley Centre Drive (E of El Camino Real, and S of the Piazza Carmel/Vons center)).

If you can not make the meeting but are interested in talking to people in your neighborhood about any and all candidates - Obama, Leibham, Lightner, Maxfield, etc - and the propositions, we have a couple of very short online videos that are all you need to get started. The most immediate action that you can take is to work for Nick Leibham TODAY. Nick is our candidate for California's 50th Congressional District and is running of the most closely contested congressional races in the country. We all know that California is going for Obama but we can really surprise the Republicans, and gain Obama a congressional ally, by helping Nick defeat Brian Bilbray.

THE BIGGEST DEMOCRATIC PARTY EVENT OF THE ELECTION SEASON

WHEN: Saturday, September 6th . 12 noon to 12 midnight

WHERE: La Jolla Shores

WHAT: Biggest family event to enjoy a day at the beach and get new volunteers. This is a busy site anyway and will be advertised and our goal is to register at least 1000 new voters and get at least 1000 new volunteers. All the congressional candidates will be there and we are working on some surprise guests too.

HOW: This is where you come in. This is a free event and therefore we need all the democratic clubs and as many members as they can bring to come and bring any of the following suggested items:

Set-up – tents, tables and table cloths and chairs, bbq pits and tools, and paper goods (cups, plates, flatware, foil, napkins), wood or coal and fire starters, cleaners and paper towels, first aid kit and sunscreen

Food – Burgers, Hot Dogs, Buns, ketchup, mustard, salads, corn, graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolate, water, soda, juice, ice and coolers to keep the drinks cold

Games – volleyball and nets, kites, frisbees, beach balls, sand toys, face painting supplies, and bring your own water sport boogie boards and surf boards

Entertainment – Drum circle already organized, guitars welcome

Nick Leibham Out Raises Brian Bilbray

Challenger Nick Leibham raised more money than Congressman Brian Bilbray in this fundraising quarter, according to FEC reports. Leibham raised $245,504 while Bilbray managed $210,315. The quarter spanned from April 1, 2008-June 31, 2008.

“Any time that you out raise an incumbent, especially someone like Brian Bilbray who has taken over $180,000 in campaign contributions from Big Oil, it gives the campaign a huge amount of momentum,” said Leibham. “This is the clearest sign yet that the voters of the 50th are ready for change and I’m honored that so many of them are willing to contribute to our effort.”

It is time!

Nick Leibham is running for the 50^thagainst Mr. Rubber Stamp, Brian Bilbray. The California primary may very well decide the Democratic Party presidential nomination on February 5^th.

We’re building a San Diego North County/California 50^thgrassroots voice in 2008. We are the neighbors, active parents and concerned voters of Carmel Valley. We are going to have a GREAT discussion about our party’s priorities and then we are going to elect our best candidate.

Get involved by dropping off a few door hangers, talking to a neighbor or passing on these meetings. We have a fun primary schedule in the next few weeks and are building for a huge November.
